ATTENTION SENIOR GUYS:   I get it, having senior photos done is probably the LAST thing you want on your to do list.   But here's the deal, your mom wants to remember this time in your life with amazing photos and since your session is already on the calendar, you might as well make the most of it and enjoy the process!

Here are 5 tips to creating great photos and how not be bored out of your mind during your senior photo session:

1.  Include a sport or hobby.  If you play multiple sports, include them all.  If you don't play a sport, include whatever you are into...fishing, gaming, skateboarding, tuba playing...get creative here.  Whatever you do, include SOMETHING!

2.  Bring props.  I know this sounds cheesy but I promise, having something to do other than posing, helps you relax in front of the camera.

Here are some ideas of what to bring:

  • Your car/truck/jeep;  It doesn't need to be particularly cool or fancy.  It's yours and it makes for a great prop.
  • Your pet;  If you and Rover have been inseparable since birth, have someone bring him for part of your shoot so that you have a couple of shots with him.
  • Sports or Hobby related equipment.  Bring ALL the things related to your sports or hobby.  For instance, if you play football, bring your jersey, helmet, and a football, etc.  You get the idea!

What do you want to remember about your senior year?  Thank outside the box and include something unique.

3.  Plan to have your haircut at least three weeks in advance.  Bad haircuts are one of the number one reasons for reschedules.  If your hairdresser suddenly gives you the worst haircut of your life, you need time for your hair to grow a bit and settle before your session.

4.  Have plenty of outfits to choose from.  Wearing the same outfit for every photo gets old quick.  Plan at least three outfits in addition to your jersey.  Choose something casual, something a little dressy and something that feels totally you.  And don't forget the right shoes and socks for every outfit.

5.  End your session with some friends, a sibling, or even a whole family photo.  It's probably been awhile since your family had a nice professional photo done so why not have the fam meet you at the end of your session for a new family portrait?  Or, have your friends show up at the end of your session for a fun group shot.

Are these tips helpful?  When you book your session with me, you'll receive a few newsletter with reminders of these tips as well as many others to make for a great senior session.
